CITU protests against price increases for vital raw materials

“Give 10,000 yen a month to families who are not subject to income tax”

The Union government’s steep rise in the price of vital raw materials at a time when many people are losing their livelihoods due to the COVID-19 pandemic has been heavily criticized by the Center of Indian Trade Unions (CITU).

In a protest organized on Sunday at the Kommadi on the outskirts of the city, CITU mayor RKSV Kumar said that agitations against the “anti-people” and “anti-work” policies of the center were being organized across the country instead of helping the workers they pass them on. The Union government is determined to privatize public sector companies and further cripple the country’s economy, he claimed.

He demanded that the non-income tax families receive 10,000 yen and 17 different staple foods a month. Gasoline and diesel prices should be cut and subsidies increased, he said. COVID-19 vaccination should be free for all people, said Mr Kumar.

Attendees included Madhurawada Zone CITU President D. Appalaraju, Secretary P. Rajkumar, leaders A. Kiran, M. Ramesh and S. Pydithalli.
