In a two-day operation, police, in collaboration with SWAT teams, raided several locations in the district and confiscated huge amounts of prohibited Gutkha products, Non-Duty Paid Liquor (NDPL) and Illicitly Distilled (ID) spirits.

About 40 teams raided ID liquor manufacturing units in Pedana, Mylavaram, Tiruvuru, Kruthivennu, Nagayalanka and some island villages and destroyed the liquor brewing units, said Krishna Police District chief M. Ravindranath Babu, who oversaw the operation.

Teams led by DSPs B. Srinivasulu and N. Satyanandam raided stores and confiscated Gutkha packages valued at approximately 7.17 lakh. Raids were also carried out on Saturday and Sunday to investigate sand smuggling, gambling and other illegal activities, said Nandigama DSP G. Nageswar Reddy.

193 cases posted

“During the 48-hour mission, police recorded 193 cases and arrested 228 people. More than 200 police officers from the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB), the Special Branch and various police stations took part in the raids in the Machilipatnam, Nandigama, Nuzvid and Avanigadda divisions, ”the SP said.

Vehicle controls

Police officers checked vehicles at the border checkpoints and confiscated large quantities of NDPL smuggled from Telangana. Ravindranath Babu warned against those involved in brewing, liquor and NDPL sales in the district.

Police teams confiscated vehicles used to smuggle alcohol, ID liquor and sand, said Police Superintendent Mallika Garg.

SEB Additional SP Vakul Jindal, ASP Mallika Garg, Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) Masoom Basha and Mahaboob Basha, and officers from the Special Branch and other wings oversaw the raids, the SP added.
