All-party meeting of women to unite the fight against the state government.

The Jagan regime failed to protect women, Oppn claims. leader

Opposition party leaders on Saturday called for a concerted battle against the state’s Jagan Mohan Reddy government, which “failed to protect the fairer sex,” leading to more than 600 cases of atrocities against women in the state in the past two years .

At a bipartisan women’s meeting organized by the Telugu Mahila wing of the TDP, women leaders attributed the “unfortunate state” of the state to the “inefficiency” of the government. They expressed their deep concern about the “deterioration in the law and order of the state” and called for the government to issue a white paper on how many of the guilty detainees arrested under the Disha Act were actually hanged. They claimed that many in the government supported perpetrators of crimes against women.

They said that while the state has a Minister of the Interior, M. Sucharitha, she has become a “puppet” in the hands of Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. They unanimously decided to initiate Section 406 “breach of trust” proceedings against the prime minister for his “turnaround on the Amaravati issue” after he took office, in stark contrast to his election promise not to change the capital of the state.

COVID-19 and price increase

They said women from economically underdeveloped areas are hardest hit by the partial curfew because they cannot supplement their household incomes by doing small jobs. They called for a special pension for women who have lost their husbands to COVID-19.

Telugu President Mahila Vangalapudi Anita said Mr Jagan had promised a total ban at the time of the elections but resigned after he came to power. Citing the case of a 12-year-old Dalit girl who was raped and abandoned at a location near the Rajahmundry police station, she wondered why the Disha law was not being enforced in this case.

Ms. Anita stated that the YSRCP has lost the right to rule the state, saying women also have problems accessing COVID vaccines and so the government should set up special vaccination centers for women.

Sunkara Padmasri, a member of the AP Congress Coordinating Committee, claimed that protecting women was the Jagan’s government’s lowest priority.

CPI leader Durga Bhavani accused the prime minister of withdrawing his promise to offer women equal opportunities in social, political and economic areas. Dura Prasanthi of the Jana Sena Party and Malathi Rani of the Lok Satta Party criticized the State Mahila Commission for keeping silent about the increasing atrocities against women.

Amaravati peasant women Kambhampati Sirisha and Jammula Sailaja said the prime minister’s mother Vijayamma’s and sister Sharmila’s silence about the attacks and humiliations that were being piled on Amaravati protesters was unacceptable.
