Palamaner subdivision police arrested six people on Monday in connection with lynching a 40-year-old man after he was lynched on Jan.
Deputy SP CM Gangaiah said Defendant Gurumurthy from Vanamala Dinne followed the 70-year-old woman when she returned home after withdrawing cash from a local bank. He had dragged her into the bushes in a remote location and allegedly raped and injured her. Angry about the alleged attack, six people are said to have lynched Gurumuthy while he was on the run.
Mr. Gangaiah said that following a complaint from a villager, one case was recorded and the six defendants were arrested and taken into custody. “Gurumuthy has a criminal history. He has also been convicted of attempted murder and rape in the past, ”said Mr. Gangiah.
