Railways delivered over 2,000 MT oxygen to AP

Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO), which Indian Railways transported 33 Oxygen Express trains to various destinations in Andhra Pradesh for the past 16 days, totaled 2,125 MT on Tuesday.

The railways supplied the LMO to four locations in the state – Tadipatri, Guntur, Krishnapatnam and Simhachalam (Visakhapatnam). The oxygen needs of the districts of Kadapa, Kurnool and Anantapur were met by a shipment of 368 tons in the past 16 days. While Guntur received 720.9 MT, Krishnapatnam received 756.7 MT and Simhachalam received 360 MT.

South Central Railway general manager Gajanan Mallya said in a press release Tuesday that the Oxygen Express trains are operating from the eastern and western parts of the country to effectively meet the state’s medical oxygen needs. A total of 33 trains brought 130 LMO tankers into the state.

While 15 Oxygen Express trains operated from Odisha, 9 trains from Jharkhand, followed by 7 trains from Gujarat and 2 trains from West Bengal, traveled the green corridors to ensure minimal transportation time. To ensure the trains run smoothly, multidisciplinary teams have been formed, he said.
