Rear Admiral IB Uthaiah takes over as Admiral Superintendent, Naval Dockyard

Rear Admiral IB Uthaiah took over as Admiral Superintendent, Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam. from Rear Admiral Sreekumar Nair, here on Monday.

Rear Admiral IB Uthaiah entered service in the Indian Navy in November 1987.

He holds a B.Tech. Degree in marine engineering, an M.Tech. in mathematical modeling and computer simulation and an M.Phil. Degree in Strategic Studies.

In his 33 years of service, the Rear Admiral has served in the Indian Navy in a variety of roles, including positions in the Warship Design Directorate, Training Academies, Naval Dockyard and Command and Naval Headquarters.

His key appointments include warship design, construction and acquisition; Operation, maintenance and repair of warships, officer training and project management of a huge naval and civil infrastructure project.

His most recent operational and personnel appointments include General Manager (Refit) at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, and Principal Director (Ship Production).

After his appointment as Rear Admiral, the officer was appointed additional Director General (Technical) at Project Seabird Headquarters.

The mega-project includes the creation of a futuristic naval base in Karwar with four self-contained townships, a naval air station and a 400-bed tertiary care hospital.

As an alumnus of the Naval War College, he received the Vishist Seva Medal (VSM) for outstanding services to the Naval Dockyard and was instrumental in signing important warship construction contracts with Russian and Indian shipyards as chief director.

Rear Admiral Sreekumar Nair, would take over as Director General of the Naval Project in Visakhapatnam after his promotion to Vice Admiral.
