Nellore sees six COVID deaths

Up to 1,854 people contracted the virus infection, while seven patients succumbed to the virus infection in the past 24 hours on the south coast of Andhra.

COVID deaths, which were in double digits in the region until recently, fell to 7 as 6 patients died in SPSR Nellore district and one in Prakasam on Saturday. The combined toll in the two districts was thus 1,589.

Up to 809 patients had died of COVID in the SPSR Nellore district, while Prakasam recorded 780 deaths.

The number of recoveries continued to exceed the number of new cases, as at least 2,870 patients recovered from the disease during the reporting period. The total number of coronavirus cases approached 2.23 lakh while active cases stand at 34,981.

The State Irrigation Minister P. Anil Kumar Yadav stated that the health situation in Nellore would continue to improve in the next two weeks. Industry Secretary P. Goutham Reddy petted the health professionals for the tireless efforts that allowed faster recovery for patients.

BMR Foundation Chairman Beeda Mastan Rao donated 250 oxygen concentrator machines, including 200 imported to the district from China. He promised to deliver 1,000 doses of the Defense Research Development Organization (DRDO) anti-COVID drug 2-Deoxy-D-Glucose (2-DG) to the government in the first week of June, when the launch is expected.
