Telugu Desam seeks Bharat Ratna for NTR

The TDP adopted a number of resolutions on the second and last day of its annual conclave, Mahanadu, on Friday, including the search for Bharat Ratna for party founder-president NT Rama Rao.

In his opening address, after honoring NTR on his 98th birthday, National President of the TDP, N. Chandrababu Naidu, recalled how the great achievements of the former Chief Minister made an unforgettable impression on Telugu-speaking people around the world.

Mr. Naidu appealed to the central government to transfer Bharat Ratna to NTR in recognition of his outstanding service to the country’s political space and film industry.

Participating in a discussion on organizational restructuring, Mr. Naidu stressed the need to identify youth who could actively participate in party activities and effectively accommodate the rivals in their respective positions.

Irrigation projects

Speaking of a resolution on irrigation projects, Mr Naidu accused the YSRCP government of sabotaging the projects in the state and adopting anti-farmer policies such as reverse bidding, cessation of project work and neglecting irrigation water for crops.

The YSRCP government has spent 1,000 billion yen on irrigation projects since taking power in 2019, he said. Mr. Naidu claimed that Polavaram and Amaravati are like two eyes. The YSRCP government has failed to add irrigation water to a single acre in the past two years, he claimed.

“Wrong Cases”

Mr. Naidu criticized the government for having involved party leaders in false cases. As examples, he cited the arrests of Party President K. Atchannaidu, Kollu Ravindra, Dhulipalla Narendra, JC Prabhakar Reddy, JC Asmith Reddy and Chintamaneni Prabhakar. He spoke about the proceedings against YSRCP leader K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju for questioning the government’s decisions. “Mr. Raju was mistreated even though he was a Member of Parliament,” he added.
