Establish village pools ₹ 50 lakh, CCC

The residents of the village of Gollala Maamidada in the East Godavari district have set up a 30-bed Covid Care Center (CCC) in their village by raising ₹ 50 lakh in contributions to ensure emergency care for the villagers.

District officials have allowed villagers to convert the Primary Health Center into the CCC, which was inaugurated Thursday by Collector D. Muralidhar Reddy.

In the first wave of COVID-19, the village was a hotspot in the district with hundreds of locals infected with the virus.

The locals formed a social media group in which the topic was discussed and it was decided to pool funds for the establishment of the CCC. Anaparthi MLA Satti Suryanarayana Reddy, senior journalist Sabbella Sivannarayana Reddy, and several others played key roles in turning the idea into reality.

Mr. Muralidhar Reddy paid tribute to the initiative and assured local people of the government support and the use of medical and health workers to run the CCC.

Isolation device

Another local DRK resident and founder of the Gollala Maamidada Education Society, Reddy, has offered to convert his college buildings into a 300-bed home isolation facility for patients from across the county. It is expected to open this week.
