Wife “ends life” in GGH while husband fights black fungus

A 46-year-old woman committed suicide here in Government General Hospital (GGH) on Wednesday. She was reportedly unable to cope with the trauma after learning that her husband was suffering from it Mucormycosis or black mushroom.

GGH Superintendent G. Mahalakshmi said The Hindu that Ms. S. Bullimavathi had taken the extreme step early in the morning in the infirmary dedicated to treating black fungus patients.

The woman is from the village of Pedolludi Mandal in Gollala Mamidada in the East Godavari district and is survived by her husband and a daughter.

The woman’s husband, Tirupa Reddy, was accepted into the GGH on May 20 for being treated for a black fungus.

“The obvious reason for her extreme stride is mental trauma,” said Dr. Mahalakshmi.

“Mr Tirupa Reddy is stable and he is responding to treatment,” she added.

The police have registered a case and an investigation is ongoing.
