On Wednesday, the district police recovered 1,140 kg of ganja in a huge catch, which was allegedly transported here by two people in the Araku Valley in the Visakhapatnam district. Police said the smugglers allegedly tried to transport the ganja from inland Odisha through the town of Vizag to Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.
Although all of the ganja was procured for la23 lakh, it is estimated that in Madhya Pradesh it would have risen to between ₹ 80 lakh and ₹ 1.2 crore.
Araku police said that based on credible information, they intercepted a truck near Araku. An inspection of the vehicle revealed a fabricated box inside the truck in which 38 ganja-filled backpacks were found.
Both smugglers from Uttar Pradesh were arrested.
