Fire extinguished in the HPCL Visakh refinery

There were no casualties or injuries to anyone or staff, and everyone nearby was evacuated in a timely manner

A major disaster was averted at the HPCL Visakh Refinery when a fire broke out in the raw distillery No. 3 in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday.

According to Police Commissioner Manish Kumar Sinha, there were no casualties or injuries to anyone or employees and everyone nearby was evacuated in a timely manner. The fire was extinguished within an hour, he said.

According to the initial assessment by HPCL’s Civil Protection Department, the fire broke out around 3:10 p.m. when an overhead line caught fire, likely due to overheating, and this could have started a fire in the distillery that contained naphtha.

Four fire tenders were brought to the spot and the fire was extinguished within an hour.

In a press release from HPCL, the fire accident was confirmed and found that the safety measures and fire fighting were immediately activated and the fire extinguished. Cooling operations are carried out, and the exact cause of the fire and the assessment of the material damage are determined after cooling.

The press release also stated that there were no victims and there is no risk to the public. The other refineries will continue as usual.
