The teachers are looking for a vaccine before the school reopens

Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Federation (APTF) leaders have called for all teachers in the state to be given the COVID-19 vaccine before schools reopen.

In a statement, Federation President K. Bhanu Murthy and General Secretary P. Panduranga Varaprasada Rao criticized the government for its “adamant” position on 10th grade exams. They said there had been no improvement in the pandemic situation and yet the government claimed it would take grade 10 exams and reopen schools from June 1.

Over the past month, many electoral teachers contracted the virus and passed it on to others when they returned to their schools. So far, more than 300 teachers have succumbed to the pandemic. The situation would repeat itself if schools reopened at such difficult times, they said.

The teachers also called for the 11th commission to review wages to be set up for three years.
