Former Vice Chancellor of Andhra University YC Simhadri dead

Former Vice Chancellor of Andhra University, Yedla C. Simhadri, 80, died here on Saturday from complications related to COVID-19.

In addition to serving as Vice Chancellor of Andhra University, he was also Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University, Patna University and Acharya Nagarjuna University.

He received his PG degrees in social work and law degrees from Andhra University. He also received a PG degree in criminology and sociology from Indiana State University and a doctorate in sociology from Case Western Reserve University. He completed his postdoctoral research at the Commonwealth Institute.

He began his teaching career in the 1980s as a professor at the Department of Sociology at Andhra University.

He was the AU’s 13th Vice Chancellor and served from 2002 to 2005.

He later joined BJP and was active in the party’s activities. His experience and advice will be missing from the party. Despite his age, he was very active and participated in all programs, said BJP District President M. Raveendra.

AU PVGD Vice Chancellor Prasad Reddy and other staff expressed condolences.

The final rites will be performed on Saturday evening in his home village of Gurajau Lanka in the East Godavari district.
