Andhra’s GSDP rises to 1.58%, State rises in the SDG rankings

The socio-economic survey conducted by the Planning Department found that the state’s per capita income rose to 1.70 lakh per year in 2020-2021, compared to 1.68 lakh in 2019-20.

Andhra Pradesh registered a gross domestic product (GSDP) of 1.58%, which is higher than the negative growth of the national GDP of -3.80% in the previous year.

The Socio-Economic Survey (SES) carried out by the Planning Department found that the state’s per capita income rose to 1.70 lakh per year in 2020-2021, compared to 1.68 lakh in 2019-20.

The per capita income for the whole of India for the period 2019-20 is 1.34 lakh per year.

The SES also produced some interesting insights into government progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The state improved its position in the 4th SDG ranking across the country from 4th to 3rd in 2019.

In the latest ranking by NITI Aayog, Andhra Pradesh secured 1st place in two SDGs – Goal 6 (clean water and sanitation) and Goal 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions), 2nd place in Goal 3 (good Health). , Goal 8 (decent economic growth), Goal 13 (climate change) and Goal 14 (life under water) and 3rd rank in Goal 1 (eradication of poverty).

On the other hand, the long road to achieving overall competence continues as the state’s literacy rate at 67.35% is well below the national average of 72.98%.

The state saw a small increase after sustained efforts to improve literacy.

Schemes like Jagananna Vidya Deevena and Vasathi Deevena have helped students pursue quality higher education.

Under Jagananna Vidya KanukaThe teaching and learning materials were distributed to 42.34 lakh beneficiaries and 36.88 lakh students were awarded medium-term contracts under the Jagananna Gorumuddha program.

The state’s health system has been overhauled as part of the YSR Aarogyasri program, which benefits 1.44 crore families whose annual income is less than 5 pounds sterling.

The program established 1,577 network hospitals and covered 2,436 procedures.

In 2020-21, the program benefited 5.33 lakh patients for 1902.35 crore.
