£ 50 worth of alcohol seized, six arrested

Chittoor police arrested six people on Tuesday and confiscated £ 50 worth of Mandal liquor bottles, a pick-up truck, an off-road vehicle and two motorcycles in the village of Tavanampalle, 30 km from Gajulapalle.

Police superintendent S. Senthil Kumar informed the media that when there was an indication that a gang with liquor bottles from Karnataka were on their way to Tirupati, a special team was formed with Deputy SP (Law and Order) N. Sudhakar Reddy the vehicles had been intercepted and arrested the accused. To avoid police controls, the gang reportedly chose the highway through the Tavanampalle mandal.

At around 6 a.m., the police discovered four young people on two motorcycles who were piloting a mini truck and an SUV and carrying liquor bottles. When six defendants saw the police, they abandoned the vehicles and tried to escape, but were overwhelmed. The confiscated goods were handed over to the Chittoor District Police Department.

One case was registered and the defendants were placed in pre-trial detention. Of the defendants, all aged 25 to 40, two were from the Vellore District of Tamil Nadu and four were from the Chittoor District.
