Police department forms green channels for oxygen tankers

The police are doing everything possible to ensure the seamless transport of medical oxygen from the plants in neighboring states to various COVID-designated hospitals in Andhra Pradesh.

Several measures are already in place to ensure the smooth movement of tankers carrying the life-saving gas, and plans are underway to attach GPS trackers to all oxygen-containing tankers.

A press release issued by the office of the Director General of Police, D. Gautam Sawang, said that in coordination with the DGPs of the respective states, green channels with escort vehicles would be set up daily for moving oxygen tankers from Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

All 11 facilities supplying the state with oxygen have been mapped. In addition, the police agency takes care of the needs of tankers and helpers by providing them with food and water at the interstate border in Srikakulam.

Additional drivers, technicians and cranes to clear traffic jams, if any, will also be arranged, the press release said.

The police are also escorting the tankers going to other states such as Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Karnataka.

Pat for the Kurnool Police

Meanwhile, Mr. Sawang cherished the Kurnool police who were providing oxygen to patients stranded on the Telangana border on their way to Hyderabad for COVID treatment.

Mr. Sawang has approved the deaths of Police Chief Satyanarayana and Home Guard Narayana Reddy, who died in an accident late at night after participating in the oxygen tanker escort in East Godavari District.

The DGP said that the police department would extend all support to the bereaved.
