APSRTC converts 4 buses into ambulances with oxygen on wheels

The authorities of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) at the Rajamahendravaram depot have decided to convert four buses into the “Oxygen on Wheel” ambulances used in the city.

In response to an appeal by MP Margani Bharat, the APSRTC authorities made the decision and two such ambulances would be handed over to East Godavari County Authorities on Saturday.

“A government agency will install the oxygen system in the abmulances,” said PNVM Satyanarayana Murthy, depot manager of APSRTC Rajamahendravaram.

Mr Bharat, who inspected two such ambulances, said the vehicles would have 30 seats with the oxygen system and would cater to the needs of COVID patients who need critical health services.

The lifesaver

In the first phase, the APSRTC Kakinada depot made the two such ambulances available.

In two “Oxygen on Wheel” vehicles launched on May 12th, more than 40 patients in need of intensive care were accommodated in the premises of the District Government Hospital (DGH) and the GSL Hospital in the city.

Many COVID patients have been waiting for the DGH’s oxygen facility, in which beds with the oxygen facility are not available due to the increasing number of infections.

“Such additional facilities for temporary intensive care minimize the waiting time of COVID-19 patients to be admitted to hospitals. We are able to offer life saving treatments in the ‘Oxygen on Wheel’ ambulances. Patients will be taken to hospitals as soon as beds are available, ”added Bharat.
