Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pathuri Nagabhushanam, who was appointed head of the party’s COVID-19 cell for Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam districts, and East and West Godavari, urged the state government to provide vaccines immediately procured by prepaid an estimated £ 1,600 crore.
“For a government that has spent 85,000 crore on welfare systems over the past two years, purchasing the much-needed vaccines at 1,600 crore shouldn’t be a problem,” he said.
Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Nagabhushanam said that Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had pledged to give the COVID vaccine to three Crore people between the ages of 18 and 45 free of charge, but now appeared to be content to only send letters to write The Prime Minister took no concrete action despite a large number of people over 45 who took their first dose had difficulty getting the second.
Mr Nagabhushanam insisted that the government take urgent steps to improve the functioning of Hotline 104 to help those in distress and close down wine stores that he said are contributing to the rapid spread of the pandemic.
“The center is doing everything it can to help states cope with the crisis – delivering drugs, vaccines, injections and oxygen. For their part, people should break the chain of transmission by staying indoors and following the COVID protocols, ”said Nagabhushanam.
