Rajamahendravaram is to have a 300-bed hospital temporarily

East Godavari County Authorities have drawn up an action plan to set up a 300-bed makeshift hospital in Rajamahendravaram city to meet the need for additional beds for COVID-19 treatment.

The decision was made against the background of the labeling of many private hospitals that have been designated as COVID hospitals in the city.

“It was decided to set up a temporary hospital with 300 beds in the city of Rajamahendravaram. Oxygen production on the Andhra Paper Mill campus would start soon, ”said East Godavari collector D. Muralidhar Reddy at a press conference.

The authorities have also completed talks with an oxygen production company in Peddapuram to produce oxygen. The daily production capacity will be enough to fill 480 bottles a day.

“Medical oxygen needs for private hospitals in Rajamahendravaram will be met by the Peddapuram department within a week,” said Muralidhar Reddy.

The district’s daily oxygen demand is 150 pounds.

At the vaccination campaign, Mr Muralidhar Reddy said at least one lakh had been waiting for the second dose of vaccine and that they would be given immediate priority as the majority of them had taken the sting 60 days ago.

“We have been instructed by the state government to give the second dose to people on a war basis rather than covering those seeking the first dose,” Muralidhar said.

He admitted that district authorities were facing challenges in ensuring a resilient health infrastructure and appealed to the media to work with the government to address the challenges of minimizing the COVID-19 death toll and improving the recovery rate.
