“Oxygen on Wheels” for intensive care

At least two buses have been converted into mobile hospitals with critical care facilities and equipment for those waiting to be admitted to the Rajamahendravaram District Government Hospital in East Godavari District.

The initiative, entitled “Oxygen on Wheels”, was launched by Rajamahendravaram MP Margani Bharat, who will open the mobile hospitals on Wednesday.

“Each bus will have six seats and will operate under the auspices of the county government hospital staff, including doctors. The mobile hospitals will be equipped with an oxygen system and parked on the DGH campus to treat those who are waiting to be admitted, ”said Bharat.

According to official information from the East Godavari District, there were no oxygen beds in the DHG to allow for new admissions as a large number of inpatients were battling COVID-19.

“I became aware of the frequency of COVID patients waiting for beds with oxygen systems. Such a dire scenario forced me to create an alternative system that would provide temporary medical treatment to save lives. The process was a success and the services will start on Wednesday, ”said Bharat.

The patient receives intensive treatment in the mobile hospitals until a bed is allocated in the hospital.

“The Oxygen on Wheel initiative will be shared with Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy after a few days to replicate the model in the rest of the state and address the shortage of oxygen beds in state hospitals.” said Mr. Bharat.

Local NGOs would be involved in its operation in the coming days.

Regarding the availability of oxygen in the city, Bharat said the technical team at the Andhra paper mill is tasked with resuming oxygen production at the mill. Production of 15 kiloliters per day is expected to begin by Sunday. Once functional, there would be no oxygen starvation, he added.
