Police crack £ 3 crore worth of diamond jewelry theft case, 2 snatched

Chittoor City Police on Friday caught two people allegedly involved in the theft of diamond-studded jewelry valued at £ 3 million and £ 90,000 on April 29 at the home of a Chittoor-based industrialist and Telugu Desam party leader DK Badri Narayana Pounds were involved.

Police Superintendent S. Senthil Kumar and Deputy SP (Law and Order) N. Sudhakar Reddy produced the accused here in front of the media.

Identified as Karri Satish, 37, from New Gajuwaka, Visakhapatnam District, and N. Narendra, 26, from Bapammur Thanda, from Chennapeta Mandal, Nalgonda District, were allegedly involved in several crimes in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Odisha and wanted to go to over 70 cases each.

In the early hours of April 29, the two allegedly broke into the industrialist’s house in posh BV Reddy Colony and withdrew with £ 3.04 million worth of jewelry and rupees 90,000 in cash. They allegedly sold 90 grams of the valuables to a Kadapa-based jewelry store Achari, who allegedly had struck a deal, although he reportedly knew it was stolen property.

The officials said four special teams were formed after receiving a complaint from Mr. Badri Narayana. The police could use CC camera footage, mobile signals, review of prison records and other technical aspects to resolve the case.

When the special teams discovered the defendant’s movement at the Reddigunta checkpoint on the outskirts of Chittoor, they stormed there in the early hours of Friday morning. When the defendants saw the police, they tried to flee on their motorcycle, but were overwhelmed and caught. The defendants were produced in the local court and taken into custody.
