East Godavari County Authorities have decided to withdraw the permits of some private hospitals to treat COVID-19 cases for alleged commercial use of the medical oxygen and remdesivir injections supplied by the state government.
In a joint press conference on Thursday, Collector D. Muralidhar Reddy said, “When examining the use of medical oxygen and remdesivir injections in various private COVID-19 hospitals, violations of the COVID-19 protocol and the creation of artificial scarcity were identified by Oxygen and remdesvir. We will be marking these hospitals soon. ”
The audit also uncovered the admission of COVID-19 patients beyond the allowable bed size in certain hospitals. More than 90% of the 77 designated COVID-19 hospitals in the district are private.
“A team led by joint collector G. Lakshmisha has already completed the audit of medical oxygen use and storage in private hospitals, which found many errors that caused a public outcry,” said Muralidhar.
Dr. KVS Gowreeswara Rao, district medical and health doctor, said The Hindu that a report was presented to the state government for further processing by three hospitals – Team and Sanjeevani Hospitals in Kakinada and Sai Hospital in Rajamahendravaram – reporting a “mismatch of remdesivir supply and use”.
CCCs in the agency
Two COVID Care Centers (CCC) will be set up in Rampachodavaram and Chintoor in the East Godavari agency. “However, there is no critical support offered in the CCCs. Serious cases are being moved here to Rajamahendravaram, ”said Muralidhar Reddy.
22 ambulances
Joint collector G. Raja Kumari, who oversees the deaths and log of COVID-19, said a fleet of 22 Mahaprasthanam vehicles have been used in the district to move corpses from hospitals. The price has been set for those looking for long-distance transportation.
The district authorities are asking the Gramm Panchayats for assistance in caring for the needy and performing the final rites of unclaimed bodies in villages by abseiling in youth organizations.
