As the number of cases in the district increases, the state government has converted the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU-Kakinada) campus into a 1000-bed COVID care center to accommodate patients with mild or moderate symptoms.

East Godavari collector D. Muralidhar Reddy and Kakinada Municipal Corporation Commissioner Swapnil Dinakar inaugurated the center on the JNTU-K campus on Tuesday, and services began on Tuesday. Patients who are unable to isolate themselves at home would be protected here. They would only be transferred to the government hospital on the recommendation of doctors.

“The need for beds in the COVID care centers is growing day by day. Up to 6,000 beds have been set up in JNTU-K’s three COVID care centers, Bodasakkurru, which covers the Konaseema region and Bommuru, which covers the Rajamahendravaram and surrounding areas, ”said Muralidhar. The district has 72 designated COVID hospitals.

As of Tuesday, only two intensive care beds (ICU) with a total capacity of 62 were available in the Government General Hospital (GGH-Kakinada). In the case of beds with oxygen supply, a total of 111 beds are free of the total of 794 beds.

In Rajamahendravaram, the county government hospital has stopped admitting new patients because all 53 beds in the intensive care unit and all 347 beds were occupied with oxygen.
