“Fear is more than just corona, it is the real killer,” says an affected family in Andhra

CHITTOOR After some X class students tested positive for Covid-19 on April 29, Ravi Kumar, 41, a biology teacher at Nagari Municipal High School who was crippled in both legs due to polio, was seized with fear as he had taught them in close proximity.

The teacher, who lives in Narayanavanam, 20 km from Nagari, commuted back and forth between school and home on his tri-scooter.

The fact that three of his colleagues recently succumbed to the dreaded virus, which has been preceded by a number of casualties among teachers in other parts of the Chittoor district since the first wave of Covid, was enough to allay his worst fears and make him tremble and often to pass out.

Taking into account the safety of his spouse and three teenage children, Ravi took the Covid test, which came out positive. “As a weakling, I thought my days were numbered. I cried like a child. My wife and children were shocked, ”he said. For the next two days, all family members tested positive. However, the field workers from the primary health center, just a few meters from his home, arrived on time.

“We were taken to the triage center in Nagari. After doing certain tests, we were advised to isolate at home and receive drug kits. Until last night it was hell for my father with body aches and severe headaches. We too are now experiencing the same thing, but on a lighter scale. We could practically see that there is a big public mistake that all Covid patients would need oxygen, ”said the teacher’s daughter, Geetha (17). However, it was a terrifying time for all five to share a single toilet in domestic isolation with many apprehensions.

The family’s neighbor, a retired APSRTC employee (72), had tested positive for Covid two weeks ago. “I was taken to Covid Hospital in Tirupati, but I was advised to isolate myself at home. Although I had difficulty breathing initially, I quickly realized that the fear within us would be the culprits in demolishing our hope and audacity to fight the pandemic. In anticipation of the worst, our family members were able to procure two doses of Remidisivir injection at a high price, and the same one was later returned for the same amount that was of no use to us. Two of my family members also tested positive and were fine now that they were isolated at home, ”he said.

Deputy District Medical and Health Physician (Dy DMHO) and District Triage Centers Fr. Ravi Raju, who visited the two families and interacted with the patients, said, “Early detection and strict home isolation for the patients is the best cure-all fight the pandemic. We call on the Covid sales force again to instill confidence in the patients and to help them to reduce their fears of Covid. “

The official said that home triaging and isolation protocols now played the crucial role in treating nearly 90% of Covid patients, while only less than ten percent of them were treated in care centers and hospitals.
