The vigilance department books cases against nine hospitals in AP

Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) officials on Wednesday raided several COVID hospitals across the state and booked cases against nine hospital administrations for alleged abuse of remdesivir vials and overcharging patients.

The officers, who formed flying squads in each district, checked the records and interacted with the escorts. They reportedly uncovered several irregularities in some hospitals and arrested three people, including doctors from two hospitals, said V&E Director General KV Rajendranath Reddy.

The squads raided the Queens NRI Hospital in Vizianagaram, the Rich Hospitals in Nellore, the Prakasam Hospital in Ongole, the Sri Gayatri Hospital in Kurnool, the Ramadevi Multi-Specialty Hospital in Tirupati, the Puvvada Hospital in Narsaraopet in the Guntur District, in KCH Hospital in Kadapa and in Komma Hospital by and SV Multi Specialty Hospital in Anantapur.

Vigilance officials found hospital management raised £ 25,000 to £ 30,000 from patients every day, and also collected advance fees without issuing bills. In some hospitals, management was charging £ 3,000 a day for oxygenating patients admitted to the intensive care unit, Reddy said.

“Fall leaves optimized”

Management of some hospitals reportedly tampered with patients’ case sheets, showing they had been given vials of remdesivir even though they were in good condition. This was done for the black-marketing of the vials, police said.

According to the GD, cases against the management were registered in accordance with § 188, 420 and § 51 of the Disaster Protection Act.
