Need to improve enrollment in higher education: ministers

Education Minister Adimalapu Suresh developed an independent thinking and scientific temperament for success and advised the students of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University – Anantapur (JNTU – A) who received gold medals and degrees at the 11th meeting on the university campus here on Saturday.

“The job opportunities are endless, but students need to improve their skills to meet job demands. A B.Tech or M.Tech degree is not enough. Follow the mantra of absorbing independent thinking, ”said the minister as he delivered the call-up address.

He also remembered the “big day” at the convocation when he graduated from the same university in 2010.

Uniform curriculum

The government focused on five aspects of education: consistency, quality, accountability, affordability and accessibility.

“As part of this, a unified curriculum was created for all courses. To ensure that no poor student is excluded from higher education, the Jagananna government developed Vidya Deevena, under which the entire fee is reimbursed, ”Suresh said.

“Enrollment in higher education is below the national average of 26.2% and this needs to be improved,” he said. To improve the quality of education, five universities have been identified to promote research, and JUNTU-A is one of them, he said.

University Vice Chancellor G. Ranga Janardhan presented an honorary doctorate to former Union Civil Service Commissioner and JNTU Hyderabad Vice Chancellor Y. Venkatarami Reddy.

“Internship a must”

In his online address, Anil Sahasrabudhe, chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education, stressed the need to carefully incorporate the six-month industrial internship program in order to improve employability. The AICTE website works like a match-making website to offer 2.5 lakh internships per year and urged faculty not only to teach within the four walls, but also to make an effort to encourage students motivate to be part of the projects outside the college. He asked students to acquire additional skills by voluntarily studying additional courses from the 200 courses available on the AICTE website.

The governor and chancellor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan called on the students in his address via a video link to work on sustainable development models by emphasizing the conservation of natural resources.

None other than the 69 students who received gold medals and other awards were allowed to enter the convocation hall because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
