£ 1,109 crore credited to accounts of SHG women under YSR Sunna Vaddi

Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said Friday that women’s empowerment is only possible if they improve their capacities.

Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy spoke after crediting £ 1,109 crore directly to the accounts of 1.02 crore women in support groups as interest refunds under the YSR Sunna Vaddi program.

The government is determined to empower women and has put in place programs like Sunna Vaddi, Aasara, Cheyutha and Jeva Kranthi to empower women in all aspects, he said.

This year, too, the government paid the interest amount to women who took out bank loans, he added.

He said the SHG women had been fined over £ 3,000 million. The previous government did not waive its loans in the 2014 elections as promised, he claimed.

Unlike the previous administration, the YSRCP government had credited £ 1,400 million in the first year of government formation under the YSR Sunna Vaddi program, which benefited more than 87 lakh women, the chief minister said.

The number of SHGs under the program increased from 8.71 lakh to 9.34 lakh, he added.

Nominated contributions

The prime minister said house registration was also done on behalf of women. Similarly, a law has been passed allocating 50% of the nominated posts to women. The government gave more than 60% of the jobs to women in the recent local elections, he said. To ensure women’s safety, 18 Disha police stations have been set up across the state, he said.

The YSR Cheyutha Program has granted grants of £ 18,750 per year to women over 45 years of age belonging to BC, SC, ST and minority communities. In addition, £ 6,792 crore was spent on the YSR Aasara program. The government has also made agreements with multinationals like ITC, P&G and Amul to provide business opportunities for women, he added.

Ban

The state government had gradually introduced the ban to prevent domestic violence, closing over 43,000 illegal shops, 4,380 permit rooms and limited wine shops to just 2,966.

Ministers P. Ramachandra Reddy and B. Satyanarayana, General Secretary Y. Srilakshmi, SERP CEO Rajababu, MEPMA CEO V. Vijayalakshmi, officials and representatives of various banks were present.
