Former Minister Uma Maheswara Rao flees: CID

Andhra Pradesh Criminal Police announced that former Telugu Desam minister and high-ranking party leader Deveneni Umamaheswara Rao escaped when a team of CID police officers visited his home in Gollapudi, Vijayawada on Tuesday.

CID police went to the minister’s home to morph a video allegedly giving a speech by Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in connection with an investigation into a case.

The CID had booked a case following a complaint from N. Narayana Reddy, president of the YSRCP legal cell Kurnool, that Mr. Umamaheswara Rao shared the video during a press conference in Tirupati during the April 7 election campaign in the allegedly a PhD speech by Mr Jagan. The YSRCP had repulsed the former minister for allegedly covering Mr Jagan’s speech and indicating that he had said that no educated person wanted to settle in Odisha, Bihar or Tirupati.

Following a complaint from Mr. Narayan Reddy, the CID booked a case and issued notices requesting Mr. Umamaheswara Rao to appear before him on April 15.
