“Fire protection equipment must be used in hospitals, educational institutions”

Srikakulam District Fire Safety Officer Chintada Krupavaram asked all educational institutions and hospitals on Thursday to ensure the installation and maintenance of fire safety equipment on their premises.

Mr Krupavaram said that many organizations install the equipment in accordance with the standards but do not properly maintain it. As part of the fire prevention week, the Civil Protection and Fire Department launched awareness programs in Palakonda, Ranasthalam, Tekkali and other locations that would last through April 21, he said.

Speaking to reporters, Krupavaram said hospital administrators, as well as schools and colleges, can turn to the department for help from experts in maintaining the equipment.

“We plan to organize an awareness camp in the Pydibhimavaram industrial zone on Saturday so that the industry can comply with safety standards and understand emergency rescue procedures,” he said.

BJDS District Fire Protection Assistant Officers Prasanth Kumar and K. Srinu Babu oversaw the gas leak awareness programs and response procedures. They said that if there is a gas leak, people, especially housewives, shouldn’t panic as they can be easily controlled by simple techniques.
