Doctor becomes farmer, wins award

A doctor and a managing director become farmers and receive a special award for innovations in agriculture.

Y. Sambasiva Reddy, the Chief Executive Officer of Sai Bhaskar Hospitals here, owns 15 acres of orange plantation in the village of Kunkalagunta in Narasaraopet Mandal. In his spare time, Dr. Reddy working on a farm tool that farm workers could use to dig a larger pit.

“The innovation only cost me £ 500 which farm workers could use to dig a bigger pit in the farms. The small tool is an attachment to a tractor and a wider blade makes it easier for farmers to dig a pit, ”said Dr. Reddy.

Dr. Reddy won the Ugadi Puraskaram for his innovation. The award was to be presented by Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the award was presented by the Vice Chancellor of Achalaa NG Ranga Agricultural University, Adala Vishnuvardhana Reddy.

“I urge young people to start farming if they have fields. Agriculture teaches you a lot and doesn’t just make you a healthy person. Farming on the weekend instead of bathing with friends, ”advises Dr. Reddy.
