Katti Padma Rao receives the Lok Nayak Foundation Prize on April 15th

He is selected for the award in recognition of his contribution to uplifting the oppressed sections, says Yarlagadda

Well-known Dalit poet and scholar Katti Padma Rao will receive the Lok Nayak Sahitya Puraskaram Foundation for 2020 at the award ceremony in the Kalabharathi Auditorium here on Thursday.

Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad, chairman of the Lok Nayak Foundation, spoke on Wednesday at a related media conference about the activities of the foundation since it was founded 17 years ago. The foundation had honored eminent writers at awards ceremonies, which were launched in memory of the late NT Rama Rao and the late Harivansha Rai Bacchan and which took place continuously in the city from 2005 onwards.

Mr. Padma Rao was selected for the award in recognition of his contribution to uplifting the oppressed sections. He has worked for the well-being of the oppressed for seven decades and has awakened them through his works.

Mr Lakshmi Prasad said the award, which is usually given on January 18 each year to mark the anniversary of NT Rama Rao and Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s deaths, has been postponed to April 15 this year in view of the COVID-19 situation.

Arunodaya Samskrutika Samakhya from Hyderabad presented folk songs at the event.

Malati Chandur, Boyi Bhimanna, Janamaddi Hanumat Sastry, Ravuri Bharadwaja, Subbanna Satavadhani, Olga, Gollapudi Maruthi Rao, Meegada Ramalinga Swamy, Kalipatnam Rama Rao, Garikapati Narasimha Rao and Vanguri Chitten Raju were previously awarded the prize.
