The minister urges the center not to move the CBSE center from Kakinada

‘It will hinder efforts to introduce a new curriculum in government. Schools’

Education Minister Adimulapu Suresh has asked the center to drop the proposal to relocate the Center of Excellence (CoE) of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) from Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh to Chennai.

In a letter to the Union’s Minister of Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal, Mr Suresh wanted the central government to order the chairman of CBSE, New Delhi, to lift the order to relocate the Council of Europe to Chennai and withdraw the remittance order from the staff. “The move will hinder efforts to roll out the CBSE curriculum in all schools in the state,” Suresh said.

Established in 2014, the CBSE Center of Excellence conducts 20 classes for 50 teachers from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana every month, helping to raise the standards of 1,000 teachers.

A similar move in the past of moving the center to either Chennai or Bengaluru has been stalled by the timely intervention of the central education department. The reason for the proposed relocation of the center is that the Delhi officers have no air connection to reach Kakinada.

“Andhra Pradesh is leading the introduction of reforms in the education sector with the aim of improving the quality of teaching and making education accessible to all. The state government has made a political decision to introduce the CBSE curriculum in all schools from the school year 2021-22, ”emphasized the minister.

Training of teachers

A delegation of State School Education Department officials recently met the CBSE authorities in New Delhi, discussed modalities and sought their cooperation to bring the CBSE curriculum to Andhra Pradesh state schools. At this point, maintaining the Council of Europe is an urgent need for teacher training, the minister said.
