Tirumala is said to lay claim to being the birthplace of Lord Hanuman

Tirumala, where the sanctuary of Lord Venkateswara is located, will assert its claim as the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. The TTD wants to confirm this with mythological, astrological, epigraphic and scientific evidence on Ugadi, Telugu’s New Year’s Day, on April 13.

With the intention of unraveling the myth surrounding the birthplace of Lord Hanuman, the TTD formed an eight-member committee of experts in December to deal with the issue, with a particular focus on Anjanadri, which is part of the seven hills that make up the mountain town.

The committee consists of the Vice Chancellor of the National Sanskrit University, Prof. Muralidhar Sharma, the Vice Chancellor of the SV Vedic University, Prof. Sannidhanam Sharma, the ISRO scientist Remella Murthy, the Deputy Director for State Archeology Vijaykumar, the Professors Ranisadasiva Murthy, J. Ramakrishna and Sankara Narayana with the project manager of the TTD SV Higher Vedic Studies, Akella Vibhishana Sharma, as the organizer. After several rounds of discussion and research, the committee finally declared that it had gathered sufficient evidence to determine that Anjanadri was the original birthplace of Lord Hanuman.

Written support

During its research, the panel counted largely on the written evidence found in Siva, Brahma, Brahmanda, Varaha, and Matysa Puranas, alongside Venkatachala Mahatyam and Brihatsamhita of Varahamihira. The panel also provided ample evidence of the “time” and “era” of what happened.

After a marathon meeting with the committee members, TTD chairman KS Jawahar Reddy urged them to bring out all evidence along with related information in the form of a book for the benefit of the public.
