Tika Utsav does not take off as vaccine stocks in Anantapur dry up

The ‘Tika Utsav’ announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi could not start in the Anantapur and Kurnool districts because the stocks of COVID-19 vaccines had dried up by Saturday evening and new stocks had not yet arrived.

This is the case with many counties in the state, some of which have low supplies for half a day. The ‘Tika Utasav’ was symbolically brought to market on Sunday morning in certain urban locations.

Meanwhile, people are hesitant to get vaccinated just two days before the Ugadi celebrations.

“People in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka do not want to be held up by the side effects of the vaccines on a festive day,” said S. Siva Prasad, who signed up for the vaccination but did not go to the vaccination center on Saturday.

In Anantapur, vaccine stocks are exhausted in all urban and rural health centers where the “Tika Utsav” should begin on Sunday. No formal inauguration of the program was made in Anantapur as district officials administered 24,500 doses (including 800 of the II dose) on Saturday alone. “With the exception of a few PHCs, there is no vaccine inventory. The program does not start until the stock is received. So far, we have given eligible individuals nearly 3 lakh doses, ”said Y. Kameswara Prasad, District Medical and Health Physician

Focus on urban locations

In the Kurnool district, 2.62,523 people had been vaccinated by Friday evening and 17,000 doses were given on Saturday for a total of 2.79,523. The district was left with 5,600 cans for “Tika Utsav” on Sunday.

“We are focusing on 26 urban locations in Kurnool, Nandyal, Adoni, Nandikotkur and Atmakur to deliver the vaccine as part of the program. However, stocks last until 1:00 p.m., ”said the district medical and health doctor, Rama Giddaiah, on Sunday morning. Anantapur was the only district in Andhra Pradesh that had achieved the target set by the state government and had exhausted the entire vaccine supply by Saturday.

Kurnool still had 6,160 cans in stock as of Saturday evening, which were used today. Krishna district had 32,500; SRS Nellore 11,670 and Vizianagaram 16,610 cans in their inventory by Saturday evening.
