Organized protest against the sale of public sector units

A ‘Prabhata Bheri’ was jointly organized by the Visakhapatnam Apartment Residents Welfare Association (VARWA) and the Greater Visakha Residential Colony Associations’ Federation (NIVAS) at the Alluri Sitaramaraju statue in Seethammadhara on Sunday to protest the centre’s decision to Visakhapatnam Steel for sale Plant (VSP) and privatization of public sector units such as LIC, GIC, Banks, BSNL, Port and HPCL.

The participants spoke out against the privatization of the public sector industry, which, in addition to its contribution to the national economy, has contributed immensely to the growth of the city. They demanded the immediate allocation of captive mines to the steel mill.

A. Aja Sarma, general secretary of the North Andhra Development Forum (FDNA), alleged that the Union government betrayed the nation by selling the national assets on behalf of “Atma Nirbhar Bharat”. He urged the people to continue the struggle until the privatization policy was reversed. Later, the participants attended a rally at the Rythu Bazaar and returned.

CH. Narasinga Rao, President, CITU, JP Sarma, Retired Deputy Secretary General, State Bank Union, Sagar, BSNL Workers Union, G. Srinivas Rao, GIC Union, P. Narayana Murty, General Secretary, Nivas, Ravi Kumar, Steel Mill Union, K. Mohan Rao, former President of the LIC Union, T. Kameswara Rao, Vice President of VARWA, and BB Ganesh, General Secretary of VARWA, participated in the program.
