Former Prime Minister and President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), N. Chandrababu Naidu, and his son and former minister Nara Lokesh have been booked under various sections of the IT Act for allegedly posting offensive comments and photos against M. Gurumurthy, candidate of the YSR Congress (YSRC), had published in the by-election for the constituency of Tirupati Lok Sabha.
The MP from Bapatla, Nandigam Suresh, the MLA from Vemuru, Meruga Nagarjuna, and the MLA from Pamarru, Kaile Anil Kumar, met with the Director General of Police (DGP) D. Gautam Sawang a few days ago and made a complaint against Mr Naidu and Mr Lokesh submitted.
They said that a social media group overseen by the TDP had posted photos and comments insulting Mr. Gurumurthy and asked the DGP to book a case against the defendant and take action against them.
Mr Suresh also appealed to the DGP to take action to remove the posts and comments on social media.
The DGP forwarded the complaint to the Vijayawada Police Commissionerate and instructed them to investigate and take action.
Under the direction of Mr. Sawang, the cybercrime police registered cases against Mr. Naidu and Mr. Lokesh under the IT Act, 2000 and SC / ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
