Several popular restaurants in the commercial areas of the town of Guntur and the surrounding communities have been found to serve stale food and kitchens operated in unsanitary conditions. These apparent irregularities were uncovered after a series of raids by joint teams from food safety, legal metrology and the Guntur Municipal Corporation.

The teams also searched multiple premises of oil mills, ghee factories, gas stations and booked cases against those who violated the norms.

District collector Vivek Yadav said tough measures would be taken against hotels that serve stale food and operate in unsanitary conditions. The collector, who reviewed the cases on Thursday evening, said the cases would be registered under the Food Safety Act, the Pollution Control Act, the Occupational Safety Act, the Trade Licenses Act and the City Planning Act against the violations.

“Anyone who has complaints can call 1902 directly and register their complaints. We will take strict measures against the transgressors and will not spare anyone, ”said Vivek Yadav.
