Raids uncover stale food in several hotels in Guntur

Several popular restaurants in the commercial areas of the town of Guntur and the surrounding communities have been found to serve stale food and kitchens operated in unsanitary conditions. These apparent irregularities were uncovered after a series of raids by joint teams from food safety, legal metrology and the Guntur Municipal Corporation.

The teams also searched multiple premises of oil mills, ghee factories, gas stations and booked cases against those who violated the norms.

District collector Vivek Yadav said tough measures would be taken against hotels that serve stale food and operate in unsanitary conditions. The collector, who reviewed the cases on Thursday evening, said the cases would be registered under the Food Safety Act, the Pollution Control Act, the Occupational Safety Act, the Trade Licenses Act and the City Planning Act against the violations.

“Anyone who has complaints can call 1902 directly and register their complaints. We will take strict measures against the transgressors and will not spare anyone, ”said Vivek Yadav.

In Guntur, teams raided the Barkas Hotel in Brodiepet, Hotel Sindhoori, Siddharth Hotel, Tomatoes and Anjaneya Restaurant and fined for storing stale food. The teams raided Ganesha Oil and Cake in Lalapet and confiscated 450 kg of oil valued at £ 60,000.

The teams that ambushed Barkaas Mandi found that there was no business license and nearly five kilograms of stale food was being stored in the kitchen. The team also found five kg of stale food in the Sindhoori Hotel and destroyed it with the help of a food control assistant.

Sealed units

The teams raided Venkata Sri Lakshmi Traders and found that the company did not have a D&O license, did not meet COVID-19 standards and did not maintain sanitary conditions. The premises were sealed. Shambhavi Enterprises’ premises were also closed because the company did not have a business license.

The teams also raided the premises of the Sudheer Ghee Industry in Mangalagiri and seized 945 kg of oil valued at 1.28 lakh and vanaspathi valued at 1.48 lakh and recommended action under the Food Safety Act.

In Narsaraopet, the teams attacked Kanaka Durga Industries and confiscated 480 liters of oil. Several samples were taken from oil mills in Narsaraopet.
