Vaccination campaign started in South Coastal AP

Thousands of people rushed to vaccination sessions at sites on the south coast of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, although positive cases continued to emerge in Prakasam and Nellore districts.

One person succumbed to COVID-19 from Nellore district in the past 24 hours, killing 515. The death toll in Prakasam district remained unchanged at 586, according to a health bulletin published by the state government.

“The vaccination campaign has had a strong response since the center eased admission requirements to cover anyone over the age of 45,” said S. Ratnavalli, Prakasam District Medical and Health Officer.

“We will redouble our efforts to vaccinate vulnerable populations on a saturation basis,” she said as she led a candlelight rally to raise awareness among citizens of the appropriate COVID-19 behavior.

Over 14,000 people were vaccinated on Wednesday in Nellore and Prakasam districts. Health officials said 4.58 lakh people have taken the sting since Jan. 26. 2.22 lakh people were vaccinated in Nellore district, while 2.38 lakh people took the shot in Prakasam district.

The active number of cases increases

The number of active cases first approached 2,000 in April, when 296 people became infected in the past 24 hours. Nellore District has 1,215 active cases, with 186 people testing positive on Wednesday.

In the Prakasam district, 110 new cases have been reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of active cases to 754.

Most of the new cases have been asymptomatic, said S. Rajyalakshmi, Nellore District Medical and Health Commissioner. All patients over the age of 60 were forcibly admitted to designated COVID-19 hospitals, while the rest were isolated and treated in their homes.
