YS Vijayamma, senior leader of the YSR congressional party and mother of Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, said Monday that she absolutely wanted the killers of her brother-in-law, YS Vivekananda Reddy, to be brought to justice.
In an open letter posted on Monday, Ms. Vijayamma said that her son YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and daughter YS Sharmila also want justice in the case. She went on to claim that some of the media had resorted to yellow journalism in the case to drive a wedge between Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter Sunitha and the YS family.
“A section of the media that is unable to support the TDP, which is rapidly losing political relevance, has launched a malicious campaign against the YS family. At a time when the TDP has given up and withdrew from competing in the ZPTC and MPTC elections, some of the media is disproportionately blasting the statements of YS Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter, ”Ms. Vijayamma said in the letter.
“Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter’s fears about the delay in the case are being skewed by the media, but we are equally excited to see the culprits held accountable,” she said, adding that a prominent local newspaper journalist reiterated lies again and again in the hope that people will come to believe them.
“The murder of Vivekananda took place in March 2019. Chandrababu Naidu was in power for over two months after the incident. The suspicion was raised against Adinarayana Reddy, who was a minister in the TDP cabinet and is now in the BJP. Pawan Kalyan, who recently shared the podium with Adinarayana Reddy during a campaign for the Tirupati Bypoll, claimed Jagan had done nothing to advance the investigation into Vivekananda’s death, knowing full well the case is now being investigated by the CBI. “Said Vijayamma.
She has reported to the TDP and the media for “spreading lies” about the attack on Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy at Vizag Airport in October 2018. “Jagan has written letters to the center to expedite the investigation into these cases,” Ms. Vijayamma said.
Ms. Vijayamma said that while her son is prime minister, there is little that can be done to expedite the investigation into Vivekananda Reddy’s death. “Jagan cannot interfere while a central agency is investigating the case. When my husband died in 2009 we weren’t sure if it was an accident or if he was murdered, but we weren’t able to do anything, ”she said.
“No differences in the family”
Ms. Vijayamma also made it clear that there was no difference between Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy and her daughter YS Sharmila in the latter’s decision to float their own political party in Telangana.
“Jagan had made it clear that he could not lead the YSR Congress Party in Telangana because he believed it was important to maintain cordial relations with the prime ministers of neighboring states in order to improve Andhra Pradesh. Sharmila decided that as the daughter-in-law of the state, she should serve the people of Telangana. Just because they have different opinions doesn’t mean there are differences between the two, ”Ms. Vijayamma said, complaining that the senior journalist was unhappy to make false accusations against her family.
