The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Friday issued an order to restore all retired archakas (priests) to the positions they held before their retirement in 2018.
The orders are considered a continuation of the December 2018 AP High Court judgment dealing with a written petition filed by the Archakas. Following the orders, there is speculation that the orders will pave the way for AV Ramana Deekshitulu to regain his lost position as chief priest of the Hill Temple.
In May 2018, the TTD board unanimously passed a resolution that retired all Archakas who had reached the age of 65. Subsequently, several high-ranking priests, including Ramana Deekshitulu, Narasimha Deekshitulu, Srinivasa Murthy Deekshitulu, and Narayana Deekshitulu, who belonged to previous Mirasidar families, were forced to retire.
To avoid controversy, TTD had appointed four archakas from the same families.
