The all-party unions Praja Sanghalu, the steel mill and the PSU protection committee decided unanimously at their meeting here on Tuesday to start a hunger strike against the Gandhi statue from April 2nd to protest against the move by the center to privatize the Visakhapatnam steel plant (VSP).
Committee chairman M. Jaggu Naidu said the statements by Union ministers that other PSUs were also being privatized at a time when the protests to save the steel mill were taking place was an insult to popular agitation.
He called for the unity of all segments of the people to save the power supplies.
The meeting also decided to organize large-scale protests and intensify agitation until the center drops the proposal to sell its stake in the steel mill.
Aside from the relay hunger strike, which is organized daily from 10 am to 5 pm in the Mahatma Gandhi statue near the GVMC administration building, “Pada Yatras” are also organized in residential areas
In addition to the distribution of brochures and signature campaigns against the privatization of power supplies, group meetings are also organized.
Walk on the beach on April 4th
It was also decided to raise £ 1 as a donation from the signatories to help fuel the agitation. A beach walk would be organized on April 4th at 7 a.m., a Rythu Sabha on the YMCA beach on April 18th. They appealed to people to join the protests and save the power supplies.
