CM credits of £ 119.88 are deposited directly into the bank accounts of 1.19 lakh fishermen under Matsyakara Bharosa
Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said the YSR Matsyakara Bharosa program aims to provide assistance to fishing families during the annual fishing ban.
On Tuesday the Chief Minister deposited £ 119.88 million directly into the bank accounts of 1.19 lakh fishermen (£ 10,000 each).
“The amount will help the families of the sea-dependent fishermen. On the one hand, COVID-19 has made life miserable, and on the other, the ban makes it difficult for them to survive. I am glad that the coverage is now being expanded to include more fishermen. So far we have deposited £ 332 million in beneficiaries’ accounts, ”he said.
Jagan Mohan Reddy explained that any welfare system is designed to put a smile on women’s faces, and said systems like Amma Vodi, Goru Mudda, Rythu Bharosa, Cheyutha, and pensions have been put in place to give women influence.
Fuel allowance
The previous government was reluctant to give fishermen a mere £ 4,000 and a £ 6 per liter subsidy for diesel, he said.
“Now the government is granting a grant of £ 9 per liter and the program includes 26,823 boats and 100 gas stations. The government provided smart cards to pass the subsidy to the gas station owners by spending an additional £ 48 million, ”he added.
“The government also pays ex-gratia to the families of those who die fishing. 67 fishing families have paid out £ 6.7 billion, ”said the Prime Minister.
For aqua farmers
The government was supplying electricity at a subsidized rate of £ 1.50 per unit to benefit 53,550 aqua farmers, he said, adding that it will result in spending of £ 780.
“The government has also set up 35 integrated aqua laboratories at a cost of £ 50.30 to provide all support to aqua farmers, from seeds to forage. We are integrating the laboratories into the Rythu Bharosa Kendras, ”said Jagan Mohan Reddy.
In order to ensure a sustainable livelihood for the fishermen, the government has started to open eight fishing ports. In the first phase, fishing ports would be established in Nizampatnam (Guntur), Machilipatnam (Krishna), Uppada (Godavari) and Juvvaladinna (Nellore) at a cost of £ 1,509.8 billion.
In the second phase, the ports in Budugatlapalem (Srikakulam), Pudimadaka (Visakhapatnam), Biyyaputippa (West Godavari) and Kothapatnam (Prakasam) would be built.
“These fishing ports will change the game and provide fishermen with sustainable livelihoods,” he said.
The government was also keen to set up 100 aqua hubs with retail stores that would allow fishermen to sell their products directly, he said. A fisheries university is being set up in West Godavari district, he added.
In addition, 14,927 families in the Mummadivaram constituency in East Godavari district received £ 75 billion for losing their livelihoods to digging by the ONGC.
